Statistical Inspection Recommendation

A corrosion rate is usually one number carried forward from the worst reading anyone has taken, and every inspection date downstream inherits its pessimism. STAINS treats it as a distribution instead, inferred from the component's own inspection history and updated as new readings arrive.

Highlights

  • Fits a corrosion-rate distribution per component from its own thickness history, rather than one worst-case rate for a whole circuit.
  • Updates the posterior as each inspection lands, so the estimate tightens as evidence accumulates.
  • Recommends the next inspection date from that posterior, with the uncertainty stated rather than buried in a safety factor.
